The rewards of a charity last throughout their life. What parent wouldn’t want to raise children who are passionate about charity as they find their influence in the adult years?
Being an advocate of academic excellence in Illinois, we recognize that parents will always want what’s best for their little ones. Hence, we would like to impart these helpful suggestions on how you can inspire this virtue to your child.
- Start very early, even as early as three years
At this age, your child is already able to make reasons and perceive understanding of things and people around them. It’s this age that they can already learn to respect the feelings of other children, so they should not be hurting or bullying others. This is also the attitude of empathy which are the beginning steps of charity.
- Be charitable parents if you want to nurture this virtue in your child
Your environment at home can be designed towards being charitable. For instance, you can agree together on donating towards the cause of a non-profit organization in Chicago, Illinois. When your child sees that their parents are into giving, they will be able to acquire this habit not just on donating cash, but also of their time and skills.
- Know that there are many different ways to be charitable
A very practical suggestion we can recommend is to dedicate a coin-bank-like container at home which you can put savings in so that you can donate every month. Meanwhile, you can also encourage your child to give away their pre-loved clothes and toys, or other usable items that other children their age can enjoy.
- Explain to your child what charity is
They may end up confused when you tell them to give without any explanation. They may not be able to grasp it at first, but in time, with consistency on your example and practice, they will be able to acquire this virtue in their hearts. Your words, accompanied by your actions, can be like strong forces in their lives towards finally living out a charitable life.
- Expose them to volunteer or immersion activities that are age-appropriate
When you partner with us at My Excellency Complex, we might be able to work out a creative program with you in our Christian-based school. This level of experience is their concrete example of what it is to give to those in need. After their experience, it’s vital that you talk to them about their learning so they can process their thoughts properly and you can then nurture the love for giving even more.
Charity is very rewarding, as what we ourselves have seen and experienced as staff and forerunners of My Excellency Complex. We enjoin you to partner with us because the joys of charity can never be traded with any treasure in this world.
