One of our programs at My Excellency Complex is Athletics. You might wonder why this is offered considering that we are a Christian-based school. Along with our academic curriculum, we believe that the benefits of athletics to a learning child can go a long way. With athletics, students can also learn the following:
- Positive values
Athletics engages students in sports and all other value-laden elements therein, including sportsmanship, discipline, and effort, among others. Participants will learn that more than winning and losing is the quality of giving the game their excellent shot, thus, dignifying themselves as individuals. There are also physical training involved to survive in the games, and discipline is such a treasured attitude.
- Mentorship / coaching
In athletics, players have to listen and submit to a coach. This leadership example can mold their understanding of how important mentorship in life is. When they follow and submit to their mentors or coaches, even if at first they don’t understand some of the reasons behind, they will eventually see that the instructions are for their best interests. This mentorship extends outside sports and into real life. In facing life’s challenges, we also need mentors to support and guide us.
- Teamwork
Players get to work with one another in athletics. With teamwork, they learn to give up what they want for themselves and instead work together for the benefit of the whole team. They give up self-importance and give way to cooperation, which is a life value for people of all nations, and the secret path to success.
- Law-abiding
Athletics subscribes to rules and policies of the game. Players can’t just do whatever they want. The reality of rules in athletics helps disciplines a player’s mind on submitting to laws and authorities. They will be trained as law-abiding citizens who are real assets in the community.
- Overcoming pressure
There’s always pressure in every game. But players can learn to focus their mind and heart into playing and winning rather than the pressure around. With athletics, players will learn to accept that pressures will always be there, and that you’re meant to overcome these.
As a non-profit organization in Chicago, Illinois, we believe that education doesn’t just take place in a four-walled classroom. There is learning in sports and continued learning in the university of life. In our persistence to attain academic excellence in Illinois, we’re convinced that a truly educated person is one who excels over the trials and difficulties in life, rather than the one who clinches perfect grades.
So with our trust in God Almighty, through His Son Jesus Christ, we continue to pursue ways of educating our less-privileged brethren in West Africa, not only in the classroom but also in sports and spiritual living. If there’s anything you’d like to know about our charitable work, don’t hesitate to contact us.
