According to the online dictionary Merriam Webster, “EXCELLENCE” is the quality of being excellent, one that is of great quality in its kind. This is the level of height that we want our beneficiaries and learners to pursue at My Excellency Complex, as we aim for academic excellence in Illinois.
Here are the recommendations we can offer to inspire this lifelong quality in your own child whether at home or anywhere you take them:
- Focus on their personal contribution rather than on what they can achieve
As early as possible, encourage your child to make their own contributions at home, whether with their learning from school or doing simple chores. When you’re perpetually affirming how valuable their contribution is to what you do at home, they will strive to do it better and better. Consequently, they will see that what they’re doing always has a purpose, hence, they will strive to do it with the best of their ability.
- Give them praise and do it as specifically as possible
If your child did well in a Christian based school or wherever learning institution they are enrolled in, praise them for what they have attained and be specific about it. When you describe exactly what it is they have done, you’re affirming that they’re doing it just right. In return, this will inspire your child to do even better and attain excellence as an end.
- Encourage them to look for solutions rather than problems
The family life will be faced with issues and challenges. It will be helpful for your child to see that their parents are seeing opportunities in their every problem. When your child encounters difficulties, ask them questions that will make them look for ways to make things better. This way, they can be trained to see things in a better perspective, thus, giving more emphasis on excellence.
- Avoid making complaining statements
Interestingly, our children can copy all that we do both the positive and negative. Hence, if we want them to be in their best always, let’s not give them anything to complain about. It starts with our very own example. Take responsibility instead of making excuses when something goes wrong. Strive to focus on what’s within your control so that your child can see how you’re trying to find ways to make your conditions better.
- Stay cheerful in life
This can be difficult at times especially when bad days happen. But when you focus on becoming enthusiastic, you’re making your home life environment interesting and happy. This attitude will discipline your child to be more resilient. Your enthusiastic attitude will influence your little one which they can bring with them as they grow up.
