Is it still possible to be content in our generation filled with “instants”? What with being able to talk with our friend from the other side of the globe just with a tap of our finger! Well, contentment may be terribly tested in these times, but yes, it’s still possible to live in it every day.
Why you should be content, you may ask. Contentment is characterized by that deep and lasting peace in your heart that is not disturbed by a financial crisis, health threats, or even business failure. Are you seeking for this kind of status? Then, nurture contentment in your heart.
As a non-profit organization in Chicago, Illinois, we can attest that contentment comes as a by-product of generosity and genuine love for the welfare of others. So, we would like to impart some helpful reminders on how you can inspire the rest of your family members to be content every day.
- Believe that what you have is sufficient for the day
While it’s alright to prepare for the future, such as making budgets or emergency funds, the concerns of the future should not be a reason why the things you have today are enough for you. Discipline your mind to appreciate everything you’ve been given with each day and you can grow towards contentment.
- Remember that your neighbors are also going through some issues that you may not just see – yet.
What we don’t know and realize is that everybody has problems, and many of them want to trade places with you. Remembering this truth is a poignant reminder of contentment.
- Be realistic
Recognize what you have and what you’re capable of. When your income is only good for this type of car, for instance, then don’t go making loans just to get the model vehicle that you can’t afford. Stick to your real situation and while it may be difficult to be content at first, you can get there.
- Trust in God
Always remember in your mind that God is the source of every good and perfect gift, and He is able to provide to those who sincerely seek for Him. Trusting in the Lord is an act of humility as we recognize that we can do nothing when God is not intervening. But when you know that you’re trusting in the Only Wise God, you can begin to acquire peace.
- Be thankful to God
Uttering your words of praise is your simple acknowledgement that you need God after all. With this simple faith, God is pleased, and His peace will reign in your heart, enriching your contentment.
In our pursuit to extend academic excellence in Illinois, we also recognize that the valuable treasure in contentment can be learned.
